CyberConnect2 Announces .hack//Z.E.R.O. for 30th Anniversary

CyberConnect2 has officially announced a new project titled .hack//Z.E.R.O., marking the studio’s thirtieth anniversary. The announcement was made in February and generated significant attention, including trending on Twitter and coverage in Yahoo! News articles. This initiative represents a major shift for the developer, as they will self-publish the title rather than relying on previous publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.

The decision to handle publishing duties stems from the success of their earlier self-published trilogy, Fuga: Melodies of Steel, which achieved over 550,000 downloads. CyberConnect2 negotiated with Bandai Namco to secure the necessary rights, receiving warm support for the endeavor. Taichi Miyazaki noted that the franchise last saw an update in 2017 with .hack//G.U. Last Recode, making this nearly ten-year gap significant for both staff and fans.

Additionally, Miyazaki addressed the status of other ongoing projects. Tokyo Ogre Gate and Cecile remain in early planning stages, with development teams seeking a specific creative essence unique to the studio before proceeding further.
