Rain98 Lo-Fi Psychological Visual Novel Gets Free Steam Demo
Indie developer C#4R4CT3R has released a free demo for Rain98 on Steam. The three-hour preview covers the first chapter and the initial portion of the second, with a future update planned to include the remainder of that section. The full game is expected to take between ten and fifteen hours to complete across seven chapters.
Set in a rain-soaked 1998 Shibuya, players assist Reina Amahara through daily tasks and minigames to perform a world-ending ritual. Rio Tsuchiya provides the voice for the mysterious protagonist. The demo features more than 300 illustrations, reflecting the studio's aim to create a film-like experience inspired by late nineties anime cinema rather than traditional visual novel formats.
The title is scheduled for release on Windows via Steam in 2026.
