Zero-sen Hayato Scriptwriter Sō Kuramoto Dies at 91

Screenwriter Sō Kuramoto has died at age 91 from multiple organ failure on September 18, according to his foundation. The Tokyo-born writer, who graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1959, is best known for his work on the 1964 anime series Zero-sen Hayato. He also penned scripts for several notable Japanese drama series and the 2024 film Umi no Chinmoku. A private funeral was held recently, with a public memorial scheduled for November 3 in Hokkaido.

Kuramoto began his career at Nippon Broadcasting System before becoming an independent screenwriter under his pen name.
