Threezero Announces Hot Rod 1986 Edition Figure for Transformers Movie Anniversary

Collector-focused manufacturer threezero has unveiled the MDLX Hot Rod 1986 Edition action figure, designed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie. The new release aims to accurately recreate the character’s original Generation 1 appearance, specifically addressing common inaccuracies found in previous merchandise by utilizing a correct orange and magenta color scheme.

Designed by Art Director Kelvin Sau, the seven-inch tall figure combines die-cast zinc alloy with engineering-grade plastic to achieve a stylized aesthetic while maintaining fidelity to the classic design. It features nearly 46 points of articulation and includes ten interchangeable hands alongside two blasters that can combine into a photon laser. Although promotional images suggest the inclusion of the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, this accessory is not part of the standard package, though it is available separately through other MDLX figures.

The collectible is currently available for pre-order at retailers such as Big Bad Toystore for $99.99 USD. While orders are open now, the figure is scheduled to ship in January 2027.
