Tetsuya Chiba Halts Hinemosu Notari Nikki Serialization Over Health Concerns

The latest issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic magazine, released on Friday, confirmed that Tetsuya Chiba’s autobiographical series Hinemosu Notari Nikki is entering a hiatus. The pause stems from the creator’s declining health, with editorial staff emphasizing that his recovery takes precedence over the publication schedule. Chiba himself attributed his recent physical discomfort to the intense summer temperatures and expressed his desire to return to work as soon as he is able.

The manga, which began serialization in December 2015, previously took a break in August 2024 before resuming later that year. Its seventh volume was scheduled for release in November 2025. Chiba, who debuted in 1956 and is widely recognized for his iconic boxing series Ashita no Joe, has faced various medical challenges in recent years, including heart surgery in 2022 and eye procedures. He continues to serve as chair of the Japan Cartoonists Association and holds the Order of Culture award.
