Sparks of Tomorrow Art and Music Details Discussed at Anime NYC 2026

Art director Mao Takayama and musician Ginger Root discussed the visual and auditory design of Sparks of Tomorrow during a press junket at Anime NYC 2026. The anime, set in an early 1900s reimagining of Meiji-era Kyoto, features oil-painting-style cityscapes with detailed brushstrokes that evoke a misty atmosphere. Takayama explained that the studio utilized its in-house background team to maintain direct communication and achieve historical accuracy while incorporating steampunk elements like visible pipes.

Ginger Root composed the ending theme song without viewing animation footage, relying instead on a director’s painting and written direction. He recorded the track in a bedroom using unconventional methods to allow for easy editing, resulting in a lo-fi sound that complements the series' eerie tone. The production balanced traditional architectural structures with atmospheric artistic choices to create a distinct visual identity.
